Diga Diga Doo by Bob Thompson with His Orchestra and Chorus

From 1959, this tune is one of the greatest songs known to man. You can see this song seriously influencing bands like They Might Be Giants...don't you think? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this track as much as I did.        Photography by Nick Brandt.

Shackles and Chains by Arlo Guthrie

This is my favorite tune off Arlo's 1972 Hobo's Lullaby album.   I've added the photography of Patricia S. Levey to enhance this song. It may be offensive to some viewers...just wanted to warn you.

Out Of This World by Les Baxter

A killer tune taken from his Caribbean Moonlight album...a very fine record and one that I highly recommend that you locate and either purchase or download. Les Baxter rules.      Photography by Sebastiao Salgado.

Cobwebs And Strange by The Who

This Who tune was written by drummer Keith Moon...an instrumental that really rocks. Click the play button and watch the fun pictures pass by your eyes and let the music please your ears.
This was taken from the album A Quick One...a really fantastic record.

Athena by The Who

From the album It's Hard released in 1982. This is the opening number and first single. A great tune and this rip was taken from my 45.
I've added some Athena's for your viewing pleasure.
Enjoy.

This Magic (A Poem)

This magic
Parades nude
With only Christmas bells
On the ten tapping toes
Painted a lovely shade of peach

Climbing up chalk hills
…leaving behind little soft reminders
She reaches the top
And calls out with a graceful yodel
Which echoes silver in the frosty air
And I can now hear her
Clear
For the first time
As silent crowds gather at the
Foot of the mountain
With mouths agape
And fingers pointed
Up

This dear girl
Can really
Bring it home
And standing on top of the world
Confessing her true love ways
She is all licorice and giggles
Which leaves me
Bending at the waist
Laughing
Uproariously

If I didn’t
Fear the heights
I’d
Be along side of her now
Shouting out
But I am lowered down on the bed
Alone
Simply looking
Skyward

This magic
Frivolous affair
Has got me smiling
Ear to ear
As she begins her gentle descent
Back home to me
Where sex will be number one on the long list
Of things to do
Now that she has returned from
The hike to end all hikes
And I’ll melt by her frigid feet
Reading her love notes
And couplets of joy

This is fine
This is good
And I will sleep inside of her
With a grin and popcorn warmth

Magic…a man can live his whole life
In this delightful cocoon
And Lord knows
I will
Not leave her side again

I will tend to her
(I’ll say it again)
I will tend to her
And I am out of my tree
Probably but
She just blows me raspberries
With a wink and a tossing of her hair

Magic again

Take Out The Trash by They Might Be Giants

Celebrating the release of the new TMBG's record I am putting this tune up. Photos stolen from awkwardfamilyphotos.com ...a dandy of a website and one you should seriously visit after leaving here. Anyway, the new TMBG's album is called Join Us and will be released on the 19th of July. I pre-ordered the vinyl and cannot wait to get my hands on it.  They/Giants have never disappointed me with their albums and I bet this one will rule. So...go and order it for yourself and you'll see why they will someday rule the world.

Merely A Man by Andy Partridge

From the great Fuzzy Warbles box set. Pick it up if you are a lover of all things poppy and tuneful. Andy is the man and he seriously needs to release some new music soon...it's very dry without any new tunes of his playing on my stereo. Andy man..if you are out there....c'mon and release something...anything...your rabid fan base is anxiously waiting.

Easy Mellow (A Poem) and a small tribute to Glen Campbell

Just read a report that Glen Campbell has Alzheimer's Disease which is very sad news. I wrote this poem years ago but I think it is a nice tribute to the man.  If you don't know the song Wichita Lineman I suggest you search for it...it'll move you to tears...so help me God....tears.

Glen Campbell
in front of
cheesy strings
sings mellow
lines

I drink my
cheap coffee
sitting back
easy
in this chair

listening

Jesus he
was good

so good
before he
commited the sin
of
Rhinestone Cowboy

it stained him
you know

but
damn,
for the past
half hour
I've been
playing
Wichita Lineman

getting a good
depression
on me
like a farmers
tan

I'm happy
but sad

listening

good tunes
can do that

this one is
a long distance
blown kiss

it's good
and I
am as
well

Tom Lehrer (A Poem)

your
bondage pigeons
and
smut crusades
have knocked me out
since
I first
sneaked your
albums
away from my
fathers
collection
and
hid them
among my own

I played them
when the sun went down
in my
pitch black bedroom
(with just the red light from my record player shining)
and
as my parents snored...
I laughed into my pillowcase
with grossly oversized
headphones
perched on my preteen noggin

I'm playing you again
tonight
and I
am
back on
Livingston Street
11 years of age
without
a
real
care in the world

(Now
if only I can find
my
The Outsiders
book
I may shrink
and have this beard
grow inward
back into my
head)

as every fool
played the
Grease soundtrack
I was with you
laughing

growing up
knowing I had a gem
in my pocket
that none of my
peers
had
made me fell....

well

pretty damned special

and
with your
horrible voice
in the background
bouncing off my walls
I
thank
you

tonight

you taught
me a very good lesson

if you want to be
serious
if you want to say
fuck you

do it
with humor

make them laugh
as you apply
your knee
to their groin

Crawling From The Wreckage by Rockpile. Live in 1979. Concert For Kampuchea.

This is Crawling From The Wreckage by Rockpile featuring Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. Taken from the album The Concert For The People Of Kampuchea.
I have a question…why is this album not released in box set form or even on a regular CD? It is out of print for some reason. There is only some of the finest bands to ever walk upon a stage here…The Who…The Clash…The Pretenders…Elvis Costello…Rockpile…Robert Plant…Paul McCartney and Wings…Queen…and a supergroup called Rockestra. It is one of the greatest live albums ever and it cannot be found on CD for some reason. I would imagine they would raise some serious money for the cause if they released this concert in a box set featuring the complete sets of each band.  Lord knows I would scoop it up in a heartbeat.  The Clash alone would make this a must have collection for any serious music fan.
Anyway, that’s what I think. What do you all think? Anyone out there familiar with this epic concert?
Enjoy.

Mimi by David Carroll and His Orchestra

A great tune if you are a lover of fun lounge music and space age pop. So go on and have a listen...you know you want to. And oh...this is from the album Percussion Parisienne.

Today's show is a collection of tunes from the 50's to the early 60's that I think you guys will dig. Spider Heart

my heart
like a
fly
waiting on
the web

shakes

and
soon
fangs
will bite

and what
now
pulsates
blood
will be empty

muscle
that really

Squeezer by Bob Dougherty

This killer track is taken from the Las Vegas Grind Collection Volume 3 which is compilations of 1960's raw rock and roll...garage rock I suppose you could call it. Good stuff.  Random photographs for the hell of it...but beware as some shots may be unsettling and some flesh is shown...so go into it with that in mind.
Enjoy.

Cynical Girl by Marshall Crenshaw

A great song from his first album...if you dig good old rock and roll and folks like Buddy Holly you'll be sure to dig Marshall Crenshaw. Give him a listen. I don't know if the chicks in this video are cynical but they are certainly fun to look at! Enjoy.

The Coasters...A Tribute to Carl Gardner...RIP

Sad news that Carl Gardner has passed away today. He was one of my favorite vocalists and The Coasters
were easily my favorite band from the 50's. His greatness and coolness will be missed.
Please take the time to listen to these four songs. The first one was recorded by
The Robins and then they became The Coasters.

Songs:

I Must Be Dreamin'

What About Us

Turtle Dovin'

Fat Lip (A Poem)

While Buddha
Gave me a
Fat lip

Lao Tzu sat around
Laughing like
A hyena
Pointing his
Finger
In my
Direction
And urging
The fat man
On

It was not
One of my
Better days

I put a steak
On my lip
When I got settled
At home
And threw
On
Sympathy For The Devil
And tried to dance
Around
But
My heart
Was just
Not in it

I was a victim
Of a crime
After all

I wrote in my
Journal
For a stretch
Under the miracle
Of electric light
And
Tried to
Calm down
By
Smoking a pipe
And
Tickling myself
With the feather
Pen

After a while
I was found in
A good mood
And
Forgot all about
My adventures
With the two
Great
Philosophers

I swore no
Revenge and
Even
Polished my
Little statue of
Siddartha
And placed it back
On the top
Of my
Book shelf

All is forgiven

This time around

Next life
Well, we will see

***This poem can be found in my book Dead Hip***

Merry Pox '03 (A Poem)

the blister
red
strand

from bald
dome
to
tiny toe

the devils
flesh
walking
Christmas tree

oatmeal heat
with pinprick
nails

throbbing

throbbing in
cactus
birth

throbbing in
fever
pores

on the bed
with chicken
beaks
and claws

as the snow
falls
and ribbons
are attached
to gifts

I
lay covered

a human fire
put out
with ice pick
left to
smolder

with just
the shingles
still
nailed
to the bone

hanging with
a
death like
grip

smoking

with the
coals
devil red
gouging
deep
into the
nerves

the holiday
toys bark

the ashtray
is full

my son
brings me
coffee

I slide
my glasses
on
as Christmas
fades

Don't You Ever Dare Call Me Chickenhead by Andy Partridge

This tune is taken from the box set Fuzzy Warbles...an amazing collection of home demos and recordings by Mr. Partridge that is nine volumes long. He is quite the prolific song writer.     I've been playing him pretty exclusively here at the homestead and I hope you'll get a kick out of this song and slideshow.  Enjoy the British pop master doing his thing.

Babe Of The Day * Rose Byrne

Strummer (A Poem)

Chamomile sugar honey
creating deep ponds
in my cranium

the English season
takes teacups
in clouded fingers
and wait for the
heat whistle
to
blow

my once clogged ears
now
tilt a whirl
and children
scream with delight
as my heart
races
and goes for
the flower bound ribbon
at the end of
the journey

Protein Shakes
My Ribcage Rolls
My Bones Rattle
(and the ghost of Big Joe Turner
rolls like a tootsie
in his southern grave)

My pet bee
sits like a parrot on
my shoulder
I'm sitting here
without the
slightest trace of merit

But the walls
melt gold
and the hardwood floors
becomes
turf
of haikus
with a slight
mixture
of
green tea

and
Monterey Pop Festival
posters
instantly
replaces my
plain white walls
with massive groovy
colors
and the words
Otis Redding
...Shouts....
out loud
and encourages me
to grab
my brown guitar
and play
a few notes
of a tepid tune
I wrote when
I was all of
six months
old
(Strangely..I remember it...
chord by simple chord)

now naked
with the six string
as my
Adam's leaf
I concentrate
on my ever evolving fingers
and I strum on
just for the sake of
..Simply strumming…

(Strumming...what a beautiful word)

but now
after the
hours have passed
I gather myself
into
the ceramic bath
and simply
-sigh-
drifting in and out
soaking among
warm cloud droppings

my guitar laying
horizontal
on top the sink
I close my eyes
and let
it all
relax me

until I am
empty
like the teacups
and
my constantly
draining cranium

This is a night
that
I can now
call

complete

and with that

ended

Ween...Live on Viva Variety! The Golden Eel

Here we have Ween playing The Golden Eel live on the short lived show Viva Variety back in the late 90's. Originally off The Mollusk record...which happens to be a favorite of mine...this live version is pretty damned good mang. So kick back and enjoy although I must apologize for the poor video as I had to film it off of a VHS tape with my cheap digital camera. Better than nothing I suppose.

The Dukes of Stratosphear...a peek inside of the Complete and Utter Dukes Box Set.

***Disclaimer: Forgive (if you would...if you could) the shoddy and miserable camera work. It appears to be attempting to juggle itself for some  reason. Perhaps I should spend my cash on a new camera as opposed to chucking my money to new and fun box sets! Watch it if you can.***
This is me opening the fantastic Dukes of Stratosphear box set entitled The Complete and Utter Dukes. It comes in a beautiful purple fuzzy box and is chock full of fun stuff...take a peak inside the box and go pick up a copy for yourself. The Dukes would appreciate it if you did and I highly recommend it.

I Can't Tell What Truth Is Anymore by Andy Partridge

If you are a casual fan of the great British pop/new wave band XTC then you'll certainly want to dig deeper than Dear God and get to the real good stuff and the good stuff can be found on the box set by XTC frontman Andy Partridge entitled Fuzzy Warbles. This tune is one of my favorite of his and I think you will enjoy it as well. Have a listen...c'mon, what do you have to lose eh?

Second Best (A Poem)

she taught
me to
never
settle
for second
best

to hang in
there until
perfection
(in my
eyes)
comes my way

little did she
know that
she was the one
I wanted

and like
a
fool
I want
her
to settle
for me

Updates...Photos and Nothing Else.

Enjoyed a swell birthday on the 24th. The wife had made for me a Ween box that totally ruled. Check out the pictures of it. It will store my secret stash of stuff. Also got a Big Lebowski mouse pad and a cake that may have melted but was still tasty as hell. The boys got me a Pixies DVD and a Black Francis CD and XTC’s Mummer album…which is simply fantastic. Thanks to all who made my day a fine one.
Yesterday I alphabetized my entire record collection which will simplify my life considerably. Found a few records that I had forgotten about and was quite pleased with the results…once again, check out the picture of them.

RCA "Sophistication In Stereo"

I found this box set the other day at a Salvation Army type store here in Binghamton, NY and I could not find any info on it online. It is called Sophistication in Stereo and it is chock full of great tunes but as I said…I don’t know anything about it. So, I will ask my visitors here at the blog about it. Anyone know a thing about this set? It is a ten records collection in a great sturdy box and has artists from RCA’s stable of musicians such as:
Ed Ames
Eddy Arnold
Chet Atkins
Arthur Fiedler
Jefferson Airplane
Living Strings
Henry Mancini
Peter Nero
And others.
There are 112 tunes all together and my set is in near perfect condition. Can anyone help me out with this set? Any information would be helpful.
Thanks.
Kevin

Playing Pixies (A Poem)

I want it loud

it's the only
way I can
get off
anymore

the louder
the more aroused I get

this music
this feedback ballad
kills me

I shake it
across the room
a-
lone
and
I like it
that way

not a judge in my
stands

not a finger pointed
in my direction

just me
partially naked
in socks

waving my
majestic arms
filthy with
muscle and
steel

my legs
dance
my feet
flip me off
and out of here

I am weird
at my home

when only the cats
can tell on me
with their stupid
little
meows

loud though
the way
I
need
it
to
be

I do the
swim

I do the
bump

I do the
Manta Ray

under the cover
of nighttime
and
music
always music

I let out a razor
crazed screech

as the windows rattle a bit
and the light bulbs
have all
gone soft on me

chicken shit they
are

I want tongue
I want thigh
I want white noise
to come from you filthy
little mouth

now,
at my call
let it all out
just for
me

I promise
I will not let
you
down

did you hear what I said?
did you now?

I'm not a fool..
I know I'm alone
as usual
but for these
speakers
these needles that
shine under the stars

it's all I need

honestly,
I'm telling you the truth

it's all I need
