Fat Lip (A Poem) by Kevin Heyne

A poem taken from my book Dead Hip.

This Year's Girl by Elvis Costello

From his This Year's Model record released in 1978 and one of his greatest musical achievements if you ask me. It was produced by Nick Lowe. So anyway...I added some fashion photo's to go along with the tune. I've really been getting into vintage and contemporary fashion photography and this is just a small peek into my collection. These shots were taken by Thierry Le Goues. Enjoy.

Rush (New York 12 Inch Mix) by Big Audio Dynamite

Fun stuff ahead. Check out this great version of BAD's hit number Rush. This is the dance mix and it really rocks. This version came off a collection entitled The Bad Files which really rules. If you are a fan I suggest you search for it and snag it once you do.
I've added some very random photographs for your viewing pleasure. I hope you enjoy this.

Without Music (A Poem)

 Nietzsche
was right on the money
when he said

Without music,
life would be a mistake

I’m sure old
 Friedrich would not have
been a huge fan
of The Clash
but I am and I play them
loud
loudly and louder
when I have the opportunity to,
usually
when everyone has left the building

the drums crack the walls a bit
and the treble rings in my ears
but it’s all good
tonight

alone with
razor blade telecasters
strumming the hell
out of the six wire strings
and that bass
(always back to the bass)
will end up in a
broken heap on the
stage soon after the last note
is played
and then
they will lay on the
destruction

debris flying everywhere
and all I can do
is applaud here in my room
being as how
I was born at the wrong time
to see them live

so Joe
your grumble and coughing
reggae roots kill me
every time
I pop you into the stereo
and you
alone make me feel
like a amphetamine high
shaking
but I ain’t got the chills
(You know, don’t you?)

and so I have a
purpose
my ears were
simply born to listen to you
and I have done so
faithfully since I was
twelve

So…it’s now
officially
 Armageddon Time
the skies rip apart
the ground cracks like a egg
and as all falls into
disorder
I will still have you
in my ear
and let it come
says I

let it come
I can handle anything

Hey Sexy by The Coasters

From the Rhino Records collection 50 Coastin' Classics. The Coasters are one fantastic band and this tune is one of my favorites of theirs. Give it a shot won't you?

Building Blocks

OK
Relax now
Just let it
Come out of you

Give it a chance
To pour out of you
Like a wonderful
Literary waterfall

Sure
You’ve been blocked
Before and this one
May have been
The worst one yet
Because you felt
It hard in your
Bones

But it will be over tonight

Allow yourself to scream a bit
And punch your thigh
As you take your seat
Bring with you some
Coffee and light a candle
For good luck
Play some good music
Preferably
Something hard
And nasty
From the 60’s
Like maybe
96 Tears

Yeah,
Now you’re talking Cowboy

And lookey here
It’s coming out
No epidermal needed
It’s a natural birth

Look how adorable that little
Poem is

And your hips are wide
My friend

You can do this
Over and over
Until you are
Satisfied
(Maybe when you are 80)

Be sure not to
Celebrate too much

Keep your pride in check

Nothing worse than a
Happy satisfied poet

And take a look at
The screen will you
Letters!  Words! A Poem!

Be sure to save it in the
Folder that you hide from
Your family
And
Think about how good
It will look
In that book that will be published
Most likely
After you’re passing
But
That’s OK

You are out of your
Block now

And there is only one
More thing
To do now

Write another one
And another
And
So on…

Within The Ropes

puffy and aged
caramel running through
my veins
with sugar boat feet
tender with
every step
across this
blanketed floor

why smile
when the hatred
is strong?
 I cut across
the wrist with a
copper red razor
and the salt line
that pumps
everything brown
into my resin heart
lets loose

a yeast infection
in my dying ears
with no intention
to fight off the  vices
that let the
pain just
roll  in
like sick blood waves
splattered across
the pubic brine

and who among us
will get in the ring
to stomp me
out of a 40 year old funk?
this squeezing ennui
that causes heart attacks
in most victims
   but not me
 as the sitar plays
in decadence
of the lotus position
 the smoking lust of
pure thighs
all tied up
and ready for
a bareback collapse

this evening
with milky riots
shining like
a million gold coins
in the diseased
water fountain
from which the
dogs of war
drink from

lapping up every last drop

so
find me here
open your strawberry eyes
and take a gander
at the misfortune
that surrounds me
like a bad habit
aura

like nicotine fingers
in your army green panties
feeling my way around
the Braille clitoris
rubbing for the moan
the sound of you
coming closer to
the finish line
while
the band ends its march
across your bedroom floor
and the tuba player
puts his hands up
in the stale air
as the trumpeter
pulls the trigger
and to the surprise
of everyone
it is
I
who
lands on the floor
with a bloody
thump
signaling
the end
of this once
proud family man

and the ropes are
torn off the ring
and the bell
chimes loud
echoing in the
frosted January
air

Slippery People by Talking Heads (LIVE)

Taken from the soundtrack to one of the greatest rock movies ever made, Stop Making Sense.  I was lucky enough to see them live during this tour at the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, NY and was too young to really appreciate it...14  or 15 years old. I still have the T-shirt though and it is pretty cool.  Anyway, enjoy the tune and the photography is done by the great Man Ray.

Buckingham Green (Poem Version) by Ween

This is an outtake from the Chocolate and Cheese session (though the finished tune turned up on The Mollusk record) and it includes a fantastic poem read by Gener in the middle. If you are a lover of all things Brown then you'll certainly dig this very much.
Artwork by the great Larry Carlson. Enjoy.

Hunger (A Poem) by Kevin Heyne

Read along with me...follow the bouncing ball.

There is a
Hunger
Inside
Of me that needs
To get out

I stare into
Her photographic
Eyes
For hours at a time

Some call me crazy
Off the mark and
Full of monkey
Bananas

But they just don’t
Understand
How I feel
About it
All

She gives me a hunger
In my soul
That needs to be
Addressed

I would settle for
A hand in hand
Moment
Or perhaps
A side by side
Movie marathon
On her sofa

I’ll take
Anything,
Anything to fill this
Void up

This empty
Pocket
In the back of my
Heart

And her voice
That shines with S E X
Slithers around my ears
Fills my head with
Such strong desire
That I have to laugh at it’s
Strong power that it holds
Over me

I could look at this
Angel until the very
End of time
And I would never miss
The opportunity
To simply open her
Car door for her
Every time

I want this woman
To feed me daily
Every time the clock
Hits the 24 mark

And no one will
Ever get it
That’s fine with me
So long as
She
She gets it

I believe she does

I’m going to
Stick around much
 Longer
Than I had planned

Just to see
What is going to
Happen
Next

Will she put those
Lips to mine?
That hand to fall into
My warm palm?

There is a
Hunger
Inside
Of me that needs
To get out

And she gets it
She really does

God bless her

May she always be
My delicious
Baby doll
The one I will
Taste forever

In my mouth
On my tongue

Simply just
All around
Me

I couldn’t ask
For more

Let the feast begin
Honey

Ok?
